What is Sinus Lift and Bone Grafting?

Adequate bone density and volume are required for dental implants. However, bone loss can lead to bone loss over time, particularly in the posterior region of the upper jaw. In such cases, bone support procedures are necessary for implant placement. Sinus lifts and bone grafts are performed to restore lost bone tissue and create an ideal base for implants.

What is a Sinus Lift?

Sinus lift is a grafting procedure performed in cases where the bone tissue beneath the sinus cavities in the upper jaw (especially in the posterior region) is insufficient.

This procedure is performed to create sufficient bone height before implant application.

How is Sinus Lift Surgery Performed?

  1. A small window is opened in the jawbone to access the sinus area.
  2. The sinus membrane is lifted upwards..
  3. Bone graft material is placed into the opened space.
  4. The procedure is completed by closing the gum tissue.
  5. The grafted area heals within 4 to 10 months; during this time, new bone tissue forms.
  6. Once bone formation is complete, implant application is performed.

The Recovery Process and Things to Consider

Sinus lift procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is painless.
Care must be taken during the healing process to ensure the graft integrates with the bone tissue in a healthy manner.
During this process, care should be taken to avoid impacting the area, and the medication and care instructions recommended by the physician should be followed.
After the procedure, violent sneezing, nose cleaning, or actions that create pressure should be avoided.
