Dental Curettage (Deep Teeth Cleaning)

Dental curettage is a thorough treatment method used when simple tartar removal is insufficient. It removes plaque, tartar, and infected tissue that extends below the gum line. It is particularly effective in cases of advanced gum disease and to restore periodontal pockets to health. The word "curettage" literally means "scraping" and refers to the physical removal of inflamed tissue within the periodontal pocket.

Why is Dental Curettage Performed?

Prolonged failure to remove tartar and bacterial plaque can lead to infections that extend deep beneath the gums. This can affect not only the gums but also the bone surrounding the teeth, leading to serious consequences, including tooth loss. Curettage, by thoroughly cleaning these inflamed areas, allows the gums to heal and prevents further progression.

How much does dental curettage cost?

Dental curettage is generally evaluated in two basic categories:

Superficial Curettage (Gingival Curettage): It's preferred for early-stage gingivitis. Plaque and infected tissue are scraped away from areas near the surface of the gum pockets.

Deep Curettage (Subgingival Curettage): It's used when gum pockets have deepened and the infection has spread to the bone tissue. The root surfaces and the depths of the gum pockets are cleaned with special curette instruments. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia.
