What is Conservative Dental Treatment?

Conservative treatment is a preventative practice that aims to diagnose tooth decay at an early stage and treat it before advanced treatments (root canal treatment, extractions) are necessary. Decay that begins in the enamel and dentin layers of the tooth is cleaned and repaired with special filling materials, preserving both aesthetic and functional structure.

Why Do Caries Occur?

Frequent consumption of acidic and sugary foods
Inadequate oral hygiene
The brush cannot reach the teeth due to crookedness
Decreased saliva amount (especially in cases such as diabetes and nighttime mouth breathing)

What are the symptoms of tooth decay?

Sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet and sour foods
Pain during chewing
Visible discoloration or pitting
Night pain in advanced cases
In some cases, it can be detected by x-ray, but may not show any symptoms in the early stages.

What is the Conservative Treatment Process?

  1. Tooth decay is detected
  2. Decayed tissue is removed with special tools.
  3. The lost tissue of the tooth is reshaped with the appropriate filling material.
  4. Surface form and occlusion balance are restored

The aim is to keep the tooth healthy for a long time with the least possible loss of material.

What is a Dental Filling?

A dental filling is the aesthetic and functional reshaping of a tooth damaged by decay or fracture. Fillings both increase the tooth's durability and eliminate the need for further treatment.

Composite Fillings (White Filling)

Compatible with tooth color
Can be used on front and back teeth
Provides an aesthetic and natural appearance
Since it is firmly attached to the tooth, there is no need for additional material loss.

Porcelain Fillings (Inlay/Onlay)

It is durable and long-lasting
Digital measurements are taken and prepared in the laboratory.
It is very close to natural teeth in terms of aesthetics.
It is preferred in teeth with large material loss.

Amalgam Fillings

It has a metallic appearance
It is less preferred today due to aesthetic expectations.
Provides high durability, especially long-lasting on the back teeth

Why is Early Intervention Important?

Treated with less pain and lower cost
Increases the chance of the tooth remaining alive
Aesthetic integrity is preserved
Procedures such as root canal treatment or extraction are avoided.
